2026 Accountancy Challenge champion secures BDO role
BDO Belgium has broadened its advisory team with the appointment of Jarne van Herck as junior manager.
After walking away a winner in the professionals category of BDO’s annual Accountancy Challenge in April 2026, Jarne van Herck is back at BDO Belgium just three months later.
“What initially seemed like an interesting opportunity turned out to be a valuable experience that challenged me, offered new perspectives and gave me a first-hand impression of the people and culture at BDO,” Jarne reflects.
“In hindsight, it became an important step in the path that led me here today.”
Designed to pit 50 top financial talent against real-world scenario planning, the competition gave Jarne an early taste of the firm’s culture and BDO an up-close look at one of the industry’s noticeable career starters.
Growing both professionally and personally
Jarne arrives at BDO after more than three years as an accountancy advisor at VGD, where he served as a primary point of contact for corporate clients and SME owners. During his time there, Jarne specialised in translating complex financial data into practical strategy.
“I would like to thank everyone at VGD who has supported me throughout my journey,” he shares. “I am grateful for the opportunities, trust and guidance I have received, as well as the many colleagues from whom I have learned over the years.”
Alongside managing client relationships and tackling complex financial files, Jarne spent much of his time at VGD mentoring junior colleagues and promoting knowledge-sharing across the team.
“I’m looking forward to building on the experiences I’ve gained so far, taking on new challenges, collaborating with talented colleagues and continuing to grow both professionally and personally,” he notes.
Before VGD, Jarne worked at PwC Belgium as a corporate tax and accounting associate for almost three years.

In his new capacity as a junior manager, Jarne will leverage his past experience in business planning, client leadership and team mentorship to support the firm's expanding practice.
