Delhaize has been able to sell all 128 supermarkets it wants to divest.

The Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize has completed the sales operation announced last year. Various media in Belgium report this.

The Ahold Delhaize chain wants to have all stores operated by franchisees, because these branches would yield relatively better returns. At the time of the announcement, 636 Delhaize stores were already operated by independent entrepreneurs.

Unions reacted angrily at the time. They see it as a way to simplify the employment conditions for a total of more than 9.000 employees and to sideline the unions. Trade unions are not represented in franchise stores.
